FOSTER A POTTER is thrilled to announce The Anne Mossman Grant.

Anne Mossman, a renowned ceramic artist based in the Gold Coast hinterland, has generously donated $20,000 to FOSTER A POTTER. This contribution will fund an annual $5,000 grant for the next four years.

Applicants are encouraged to apply for THE ANNE MOSSMAN GRANT via the application form, noting in the FUNDING OUTLINE that your request is for $5000.

A MESSAGE FROM ANNE MOSSMAN
Over the past few years I have discovered that the true joy in artisan craft lies not just in creating signature pieces, but also in passing on the intricate skills used to create them. These skills, especially in the art of Nerikomi, involve mastering the delicate interplay of colour and pattern through years of trial and refinement. The challenge of working with a demanding medium like porcelain adds to the excitement and satisfaction of the craft.

Thanks to the Foster a Potter initiative, I now have the privilege to financially support four aspiring artists and fostering mentor-mentee relationships in unique studio settings. Participating in this exceptional program is my way of honouring the mentors who guided me on my own creative journey.

I was fortunate to learn from one of the world’s leading Nerikomi artists, Dorothy Feibleman. Her profound influence on my early work is evident in my patterns and vessel construction. Dorothy was among the esteemed tutors in the ANU (Australia National University) Distance Learning Program, a pivotal experience that aided my transition from a corporate career to the world of craft.

Dorothy and I are featured in the recently published art book, Nerikomi: The Art of Colored Clay by Thomas Hoadley. It is a tremendous honour to be included in a volume alongside my early mentor, celebrating the art and craft that connect us.

  1. Good Morning 🙂

What a generous and incredible donation from Anne!

I submitted my FoPo application before this grant was announced so of course did not apply for it. Can you please clarify if this $5000 grant is a separate thing to the $10,000 FoPo stipend that I applied for? Or is it additional?

    Many Thanks

    1. Hi Liane. Thanks for your question. The Anne Mossman Grant is available to those who wish to apply for $5000 assistance. It is additional to the funds we are currently working to raise for 2025 placements. As you applied for $10,000 (and before The Anne Mossman Grant was announced), your application would (theoretically) not be considered. It is early days yet and we have yet to see how many applications come in, and for what amounts. This is our first year and so we need to be open to the applications which come in. I hope that helps. Kind regards, Vicki Grima (FOPO Director)
